Abbeyton Lofts -
The Partnership of Mr & Mrs J Savage |
| |
Jim Savage started racing
homing pigeons in
partnership with his father "Andy" in 1970 and raced pigeons in Kilwinning Homing
Society under the name" A Savage &
Son". The late Andrew Savage, "Wee
Andy" as he was widely known throughout Ayrshire joined the Kilwinning
Homing Society Club in 1930 and was a well respected and outstanding pigeon racing
fancier. Andy had won every race in the Scottish West Coast Ayrshire
race program from Dumfries 60 miles to
France 530
miles. A legend in his time. |
Jim grew up to love the sport and with the help of his father quickly
learned how to breed and race top class racing pigeons. |
In 1998 after his father passed away Jim
continued racing the pigeons in
partnership with his wife "Joan" who is
also a keen lover of the sport. They now
race as Mr & Mrs J Savage and in 1999
Jim & Joan relocated the birds to a new
pigeon loft situated at their own back
garden. |
In the year 2000 their first full racing
season from the new loft they achieved
some outstanding performances winning
eight club trophies and many
federation prizes as well as taking 1st
place in Ayrshire Federations young bird
final race from Ripon. The stock and
racing birds at that time were from generations of Orrel Pied's, Jan Aardens and Van Den Bosch strains. |
| |
Since the new partnership was formed and over the racing seasons, Abbeyton Lofts have accumulated numerous Club
and Federation prizes, winning in both the old bird
and the young bird programs, while flying in Kilwinning Homing
Society in Ayrshire Federation. |
