Ian Crossan
Kilwinning H S The 400 Mile Ayrshire Champion 2008 |
| |
|
|
|
|
Ian was introduced to the
sport of pigeon racing by his older brother David who was a well
known fancier in Kilwinning. In 1965 after
getting married and
setting up home in the Dirrans area of the town,
Ian built his first pigeon loft and joined
Kilwinning Homing Society pigeon club. Over the years Ian
has won many prizes
at short, middle and long distances both at club and federation level. |
|
|
|
Ian has a passion for breeding and racing
distance pigeons and more recent success came in 1996 when
his 3 year old Smokey chequer hen took the 1st
club, 1st federation prize from an extremely
difficult race from Cheltenham, 280 miles, when
only a few pigeons had made it back on the day.
"The Cheltenham Hen" went on to win club and
federation positions at races from 400
miles and 500 miles. |

Keeping to this successful winning bloodline, a
great grandson, of "The Cheltenham Hen" a chequer white
flight cock, SU03A 2314 was piped at the post two years
running from Maidstone 370 miles, both in 2006 and in
2007 taking 2nd position. But in 2008 from Eastbourne
397 miles he triumphed. |

|
The pigeons
were liberated at 6.00 am into a gusty
westerly wind and after 11 hours & 40
minutes on the wing, Ian clocked his chequer white
flight, "The
Maidstone Cock" at 5.20pm to take
the 1st Club, 1st Federation prize and win the "J H
Memorial Cup". |
|
|
|
Ian is also the winner of the "Crawford Trophy"
for the best average in the federation
from Newbury 326 miles & Eastbourne 397
miles when he timed the daughter of the
Maidstone cock to take 3rd prize. |
